Underground Alba. Journey to the Centre of the Cityis a project by Ambiente & Cultura, an association of young graduates, launched in 2011 to enhance the F. Eusebio Civic Museum under the patronage of MIBACT, the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. The operating assets are earmarked for projects to safeguard the area's environmental and cultural heritage."Since the times of Alba Pompeia (as the city was called in the centuries of Roman times), what is now the historic centre has seen generations of cities succeed one after the other, in the same place. The medieval town grew on the remains of the Roman one, the modern one took its place without completely erasing it, and so on, until the present town, which unknowingly is shaped by the urban features of Alba Pompeia.
Of the last two thousand years of history, much has remained in the womb of the city's underground, a few metres below the streets and pavements, fragments of vanished cities and ancestors of today's Alba that make up the rich heritage of the F. Eusebio Museum, the city's Monumental Archaeological Route and its numerous underground routes.
